Gert Doering - 22-11-2021 14:43:13

Robert Scheck - 22-11-2021 14:43:42
Does CMC PSTN pay the Microsoft Excel license?

Sergey Myasoedov - 22-11-2021 14:43:46
Gert, I believe this is for session setup

Blake Willis - 22-11-2021 14:45:06
In Putin's Russia, Excel licenses YOU!

Marco d'Itri - 22-11-2021 14:46:11
Is MSK-IX basically state-owned or just a contractor?

Sergey Myasoedov - 22-11-2021 14:47:01
Marco, they owned by Rostelecom

Jan Zorz - 22-11-2021 14:47:35
neutral IXP, da? :)

Vasilis . - 22-11-2021 14:47:38
Does PSTN stands for Public Switched Telephone Network?

Blake Willis - 22-11-2021 14:47:57
public services telecommunications network

Julf Helsingius - 22-11-2021 14:47:57
Assume so, yes

Sergey Myasoedov - 22-11-2021 14:48:08
They didn't mention the word 'neutral' for years

Jan Zorz - 22-11-2021 14:48:17
<giggle>

Jan Zorz - 22-11-2021 14:48:27
{giggle}

Shane Kerr - 22-11-2021 14:50:23
RIPE NCC external relations officer expelled. Oh dear.

Daniel Karrenberg - 22-11-2021 14:50:32
<russian accent> public *services* telephone network is revisionist language, switching is important part of ideology of PSTN </russian accent>

Daniel Karrenberg - 22-11-2021 14:50:54
read above with cold war movie russion accent ;-)

Jan Zorz - 22-11-2021 14:51:25
ahahaha

Jan Zorz - 22-11-2021 14:51:35
I can ;)

Jim Reid - 22-11-2021 14:51:38
Switching is dying in the PSTN. The core telco nets are moving to VoIP.

Sergey Myasoedov - 22-11-2021 14:51:40
Oh, in 90s I had the hope I'll never hear such things again. So sad...

Sander Steffann - 22-11-2021 14:51:55
Horrible

Brett Carr - 22-11-2021 14:52:08
Scary presentation

Job Snijders - 22-11-2021 14:52:24
Alexander Isavnin, thank you for this insightful presentation and your willingness to share what is going on in the East. Much appreciated

Vasilis . - 22-11-2021 14:52:35
Thank you for your presentation Alexander.

Blake Willis - 22-11-2021 14:53:33
my response was based on Alex's definition in slide 2

Daniel Karrenberg - 22-11-2021 14:53:43
Alexander. Thank you for raising our awareness of what is going on in your neck of the woods.

Marco Hogewoning - 22-11-2021 14:55:45
A bit older, but Max wrote a nice piece on Labs about this https://labs.ripe.net/author/maxim_burtikov/russia-regulatory-update/

Evgeny Kuskevich - 22-11-2021 14:56:06
I have to say - people have to realize not only what's happening in Russia, but WHY this is happening. And the role of the West in it. Yes. it's politics.

Marco Hogewoning - 22-11-2021 14:58:30
hate to say it, but if you look at EU cybersecurity strategy you'll find they are actually not that far apart from the Russian governments objectives and ideas. So yes, this is very political but still as community need to deal with it

Evgeny Kuskevich - 22-11-2021 14:59:29
@Marco - very true. It's not about "scary" Russia only ((

Brett Carr - 22-11-2021 15:00:55
To answer part of his question, We (nominet) would be put off putting an Anycast instance of our Auth Servers in Russia.

Jim Reid - 22-11-2021 15:02:26
Didn't Russia run an experiment a couple of years ago to cut themselves off from the Internet and only use Russian-held resources (IX, DNS, etc)?

Job Snijders - 22-11-2021 15:02:42
wasn't that "on paper", rather than "in the real cyber"?

Sergey Myasoedov - 22-11-2021 15:02:53
Jim, the experiment is very predictable

Ivan Beveridge - 22-11-2021 15:02:57
Sounds like mic input is from laptop (rather than headphones)

Peter Hessler - 22-11-2021 15:03:04
@Jim I think they were planning that but never did a physical test

Jim Reid - 22-11-2021 15:03:42
Thanks Peter/Job/Sergey

Wolfgang Tremmel - 22-11-2021 15:07:13
oops?

Erik Bais - 22-11-2021 15:07:14
speaker gone ?

Robert Scheck - 22-11-2021 15:07:15
Did it just break for me?

Blake Willis - 22-11-2021 15:07:15
looks like his prefix got dampened

Kurt Kayser - 22-11-2021 15:07:16
Plopp

Andy Davidson - 22-11-2021 15:07:21
I was enjoying that :)

Job Snijders - 22-11-2021 15:07:28
Dang! This was super interesting

Marco Davids - 22-11-2021 15:07:33

Erik Bais - 22-11-2021 15:07:51
He'll be back after the damping timer..

Daniel Karrenberg - 22-11-2021 15:09:23
I admire how smoothly Brian caught this! 👋🏻

Ruben van Staveren - 22-11-2021 15:10:07
heheh

Job Snijders - 22-11-2021 15:10:13
Clemens, thank you for sharing this. Love the slide with the simple summary "no new recommedations needed". Clarity is a virtue :-)

Marco d'Itri - 22-11-2021 15:10:22
Thank you, it is great to have from time to time a talk about something you can configure in routers!

Daniel Karrenberg - 22-11-2021 15:11:06
Andy, Emile ... Anmile ;-)

Brian Nisbet - 22-11-2021 15:11:54
Andy had sent me a message and the UI did something funny. Another lesson learned about MeetEcho! :)

Shane Kerr - 22-11-2021 15:12:16
We all love using RIPE Atlas. :-D

Erik Bais - 22-11-2021 15:14:32
Andy .. coder by day .. hacker by night.. :P

Robert Kisteleki - 22-11-2021 15:15:51
I'd like to deny any accusations hinting that Emile is in fact Andy :-)

Kurt Kayser - 22-11-2021 15:16:09
"the UI did sth funny" ? :-) yeah sure..

Brian Nisbet - 22-11-2021 15:16:32
Or my eyes interacted funnily with the UI. Something like that.

Peter Koch - 22-11-2021 15:18:43
Ui vs AI or both ...

Brian Nisbet - 22-11-2021 15:18:58
Wait, am I an AI?

Peter Hessler - 22-11-2021 15:19:43
you come upon a tortoise laying on its back in the sun.....

Shane Kerr - 22-11-2021 15:20:05
RTT lies... or alien wormhole technology?

Daniel Karrenberg - 22-11-2021 15:20:50
I'd like to deny that the RIPE NCC is working on wormhle tchnology .... ;-)

Robert Kisteleki - 22-11-2021 15:21:03
(for now... :-) )

Brian Trammell - 22-11-2021 15:21:46
because of the odd causality around the event horizon of such phenomena, i suspect that alien wormhole technology works on you, instead...

Job Snijders - 22-11-2021 15:21:51
gotta compensate for Optical Fiber Latency!

Andy Davidson - 22-11-2021 15:21:59
I shall also offer my thoughts to the question about whether Emile and Andy is the same person.

Robert Kisteleki - 22-11-2021 15:24:33
can you speak for all Andys though? :)

Job Snijders - 22-11-2021 15:24:43
Thank you, Emile!

Andy Davidson - 22-11-2021 15:24:48
Can I, or may I?

Vasilis . - 22-11-2021 15:24:49
Thank you for your presentation Emile.

Brian Trammell - 22-11-2021 15:24:56
the demo gods strike

Andy Davidson - 22-11-2021 15:24:57
+1 - this was an excellent presentation

Peter Hessler - 22-11-2021 15:25:03
I'm guessing it is sudden user load :)

Brian Trammell - 22-11-2021 15:25:03
(+1, very very cool stuff)

Robert Kisteleki - 22-11-2021 15:25:20
on the question: we used to have (perhaps we still do?) "FTL" probes -- ie ones that answer *everything* in single digit ms

Brian Trammell - 22-11-2021 15:25:46
tcp accelerators ftw

Brian Trammell - 22-11-2021 15:25:58
or rahter, tcp accelerators ftl.

Jelte Jansen - 22-11-2021 15:26:06
lol

Ulka Athale - 22-11-2021 15:26:14
