Nomination mailbox: nominations [at] rob-blokzijl-foundation [dot] org

Fergal Cunningham - 25-11-2021 10:58:15
Nominations made on St. Patrick's Day should be treated with caution ;)

Mirjam Kühne - 25-11-2021 10:58:41
website says 18 March

Eileen Gallagher - 25-11-2021 10:59:18
yes, the error is on the slide - 18th March 2022 at 23:59UTC

Piotr Strzyżewski - 25-11-2021 10:59:19
@Fergal is it the same for Valentines? ;-)

Libor Peltan - 25-11-2021 10:59:21
Is it just me or are those slides extremely dark with dark font on dark background? It's difficult to recognize the content :(

Leo Vegoda - 25-11-2021 10:59:49
I see the text as a kind of bronze. It's fairly easy to read on my screen

Chris Buckridge - 25-11-2021 11:00:05
@Piotr those are the most loving nominations!

Niall O'Reilly - 25-11-2021 11:00:05
Gold on black here

Daniel Karrenberg - 25-11-2021 11:00:20
the web site has a color scheme with much more contrast.

Fergal Cunningham - 25-11-2021 11:00:30
@Piotr What Chris says! A great way to show your love is to make a nomination.

Piotr Strzyżewski - 25-11-2021 11:00:45
<3

Jelte Jansen - 25-11-2021 11:00:53
Contrast Ratio 3.43:1

Niall O'Reilly - 25-11-2021 11:01:02
Thanks, Eileen and Carsten

Niall O'Reilly - 25-11-2021 11:02:21
Thanks from Board of Rob Blokzijl Foundation to entire Award Committee

Jelte Jansen - 25-11-2021 11:02:27
enough to pass WCAG AA for large text, but not for small (and not AAA)

Mirjam Kühne - 25-11-2021 11:02:44
It looked very festive :)

Jelte Jansen - 25-11-2021 11:03:13
i've been doing too much accessibility lately :p

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:04:01
excellent point, accessibility is big issue when people use screens of various sizes and contrast ratios

Carsten Schiefner - 25-11-2021 11:04:28
To reach the entire 2022 Rob Blokzijl Award Committee + Falk von Bornstaedt as ex-officio, please send an email to <award2021 [at] rob-blokzijl-foundation [dot] org> or its alias <award2022 [at] rob-blokzijl-foundation [dot] org>.

Randy Bush - 25-11-2021 11:04:41
you want accessibility, make magic so i can copy paste those 120 character urls from the screen

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:04:49
(meetecho should put people below slides so it would make the deck 33% wider)

Carsten Schiefner - 25-11-2021 11:05:07
Seems that < and > are special here...

Randy Bush - 25-11-2021 11:05:21
@dimitry, click X above slide

Carsten Schiefner - 25-11-2021 11:05:21
It's award2021 [at] rob-blokzijl-foundation [dot] org and/or award2022 [at] rob-blokzijl-foundation [dot] org .

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:05:30
</oops/>

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:06:02
yes Randy, but then chat disappears

Randy Bush - 25-11-2021 11:06:15
pull chat to sep window

Mirjam Kühne - 25-11-2021 11:06:27
You can detach the chat window

Christian Bretterhofer - 25-11-2021 11:07:00
shane

Jelte Jansen - 25-11-2021 11:07:12
hmm, now that you mention it, non-streaming/pdf based slides, i.e. copy-pasteable text (and/or screen-readable) would be *great*

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:07:33
yes, with icon that isnt obvious :) and then it shows in separate window

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:07:46
+1 for text slides.

Libor Peltan - 25-11-2021 11:08:13
IMHO the situation also depends on if the slides are 16:9 or 4:3

Fergal Cunningham - 25-11-2021 11:08:52
Here are the roadmaps Hisham mentioned that we've published so far. Input on these really helps! https://www.ripe.net/support/documentation/quarterly-planning

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:09:04
i think meetecho was designed for 1:1 slides

Gert Doering - 25-11-2021 11:09:20
oh, one can expand the slides! that is cool

Gert Doering - 25-11-2021 11:09:45
thanks, Randy (I was looking for a button to make the left panel go away, but didn't search on the other end "expand slides")

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:09:47
see, easy.. not. there are actually two ways to do it

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:10:09
Gert, this is what they call “ux failire

Leo Vegoda - 25-11-2021 11:10:49
@Dmitry - Chairs need to see the queue, so having multiple ways to do things makes sense

Gert Doering - 25-11-2021 11:10:53
I'm old and have a grey beard. These days I'm happy if all the computer shit has *any* way to make it work in reasonable ways...

Gert Doering - 25-11-2021 11:11:10
so, happy with meetecho :-)

Kurt Kayser - 25-11-2021 11:11:24
+1 Gert :-)

Randy Bush - 25-11-2021 11:11:52
ripe 84 will have an amateur UX design bof

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:12:37
totally!

Christoph Berkemeier - 25-11-2021 11:12:44
+1

Jeroen Massar - 25-11-2021 11:13:04
will that include a design team for improving color coordination? :)

Randy Bush - 25-11-2021 11:13:20
no. magenta wil be mandated

Jeroen Massar - 25-11-2021 11:13:43
I am good with magenta.... violent violet is my favourite.... as another purple site has :)

Christoph Berkemeier - 25-11-2021 11:13:47
We should have a comitee for colors!

Blake Willis - 25-11-2021 11:13:47
comic sans FtW

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:13:48
for example, i can have only slides, slides and speaker video, and chat/slides/video.

Oliver Payne - 25-11-2021 11:13:56
Please help us capture this great feedback! https://ripe83.ripe.net/feedback/ any Meetecho and general UI/UX comments/suggestions are especially welcome

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:14:04
having chat and slides? impossible

Gert Doering - 25-11-2021 11:15:54
Dmitry: easy. Detach the chat panel, then expand the slides to fill the remaining window

Gert Doering - 25-11-2021 11:16:27
oh, no speaker video - nah, that seems to be impossible (but I like videos)

Jeroen Massar - 25-11-2021 11:17:06
open meetecho in two windows of your browser...

Jeroen Massar - 25-11-2021 11:17:12
then compose how you want

Elmar K Bins - 25-11-2021 11:17:29
Can I have it in violent violet?

Christian Kaufmann - 25-11-2021 11:17:56
or in blues blue?

Elmar K Bins - 25-11-2021 11:18:10
I'm on Jeroen's page colorwise

Elmar K Bins - 25-11-2021 11:18:22
You can have blue

Marco Hogewoning - 25-11-2021 11:19:09
let's just go back to black & white; retro is all modern these days :)

Marco Hogewoning - 25-11-2021 11:19:39
"50 shades"

Niall O'Reilly - 25-11-2021 11:19:47
Where are Gert's templates when we need them ?

Elmar K Bins - 25-11-2021 11:20:15
Marco... where I come from, "retro" would be orange+brown.

Kurt Kayser - 25-11-2021 11:20:24
thanks, Hisham - great!

Milad Afshari - 25-11-2021 11:20:25
Thanks Hisham.

Elmar K Bins - 25-11-2021 11:20:31
Hisham...thumbsup!

Marco Hogewoning - 25-11-2021 11:20:51
@elmar: can't complain about lack of orange this time around

Randy Bush - 25-11-2021 11:21:42
National Reconnaissance Organisation?

Mirjam Kühne - 25-11-2021 11:23:07
Number Resource Organization: https://nro.net/

Mirjam Kühne - 25-11-2021 11:23:11
;-)

Jordi Palet Martínez - 25-11-2021 11:23:22
I'm curious about the Hans Petter background, it looks a ceiling with combined lighting, very "industrial style" and then the silver color pipes, etc.; is that NCC office? Not a usual setup in Spain I think, may be common in Netherlands ...

Chris Buckridge - 25-11-2021 11:23:41
it's the NCC offices, Jordi

Chris Buckridge - 25-11-2021 11:23:49
(the ones in Amsterdam, that is)

Randy Bush - 25-11-2021 11:26:56
2024, NCC opens office in Genève, jumps the shark

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:27:41
they made him to fix the pipes that send internet traffic from amsterdam

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:28:04
those are all connecting through spare room right next to central station

Christoph Berkemeier - 25-11-2021 11:28:08
Has anyone already received the NRO voting links?

Christoph Berkemeier - 25-11-2021 11:28:17
By email, of course?

Randy Bush - 25-11-2021 11:28:22
i have

Marco Hogewoning - 25-11-2021 11:28:49
ppl might find this an interestiung read https://iclg.com/practice-areas/sanctions/switzerland

Dmitry Kohmanyuk - 25-11-2021 11:29:09
me. voted (bigpulse). should be sent to you yesterday already

James Kennedy - 25-11-2021 11:29:18
@Christoph, you need to check into the meeting to receive the NRO voting email

Christoph Berkemeier - 25-11-2021 11:29:41
Ok, thanks, I ask around, why did not receive it.

Ulka Athale - 25-11-2021 11:30:06
@Christoph you can send an email to nominations [at] ripe [dot] net if you had checked in for RIPE 83 and registered to vote before the deadline (which was 14:00 UTC+1) on Tuesday

Jordi Palet Martínez - 25-11-2021 11:30:31
@Chris, it will be nice to have a video to see the complete room and understand that better ... I recently helped several neighbours to setup solar panels and aerotherm for heating and hot water, so I'm now tending to look at all this thinks more often, just engineer curiosity.

Randy Bush - 25-11-2021 11:31:39
@marco: was that a hint that the NCC Genève office will have a better sanctions regime?

Chris Buckridge - 25-11-2021 11:31:49
@Jordi I don't find myself in the office too often these days, but I'm sure relevant folks are following the chat (can follow up for you)

Marco Hogewoning - 25-11-2021 11:32:18
@jordi https://www.heyligersarchitects.nl/projecten/ripe-ncc-amsterdam/

Chris Buckridge - 25-11-2021 11:33:24
thanks @Marco :)

Marco Hogewoning - 25-11-2021 11:34:27
@randy it was not a value judgement at all, just to show what life in Szwizterland could look like; interestingly it appears they follow the EU regime for at least parts, which makes sense given they are also in Schengen and don't have a lot of borders left

Daniel Karrenberg - 25-11-2021 11:39:17
I agree that every ripe document should name a person as the author even if it has been developed on behalf of a group. We have started including a section in ripe documents that describes how the document was developedand i would like to see this included more often!

Jelte Jansen - 25-11-2021 11:39:23
connectivity issue? 0 kbps from shane

Daniel Karrenberg - 25-11-2021 11:40:27
I expect the PDP document to definitely have such a 'document genesis' section.

Jordi Palet Martínez - 25-11-2021 11:42:36
Clarification of the authorship. I'm not saying not to have an author, but not inside the "document" itself. It is a community work and the document should not say "it is owned by the Chair" because it is a community document.

Hans Petter Holen - 25-11-2021 11:42:59
https://twitter.com/hpholen/status/1463820339268493323?s=20

Jordi Palet Martínez - 25-11-2021 11:43:29
@Hans Petter tsk for the pics

Shane Kerr - 25-11-2021 11:44:28
Clarification: Peter never worked for me, in case anyone is confused. ;-)

Leo Vegoda - 25-11-2021 11:44:29
Very smart offices!

Randy Bush - 25-11-2021 11:46:13
i miss the old offices on singel. they had real character and were less grandiose. but then i did not have to try to work in that maze/warren.

Leo Vegoda - 25-11-2021 11:47:15
Those offices were protected historical buildings and making any changes was an administrative nightmare of permissions, as I remember

Randy Bush - 25-11-2021 11:47:15
well made point, niall

Marco Hogewoning - 25-11-2021 11:48:34
@leo the current building is also historic, not sure if and how it is listed, but it probably is

Randy Bush - 25-11-2021 11:48:49
jordi has made me appreciate the differences in the rirs.

Peter Koch - 25-11-2021 11:50:11
@Shane I hope I said "one of the previous speakers"; but in fact, both you and Jordi were making good points

Peter Koch - 25-11-2021 11:50:13
{desperately seeking somebody to disagree with}

Angela Dall'Ara - 25-11-2021 11:50:55
Happy to help :-)

Jordi Palet Martínez - 25-11-2021 11:51:11
@Randy, I fully understand differences between the RIRs, but if all use a PDP to update the PDP as well, I don't see the point to now start using a different process. A PDP is a very well documented and understood process, and it is fair. Why inventing something else?

Shane Kerr - 25-11-2021 11:51:23
@Peter maybe you did and I misunderstood! No worries. <3

Robert Scheck - 25-11-2021 11:51:37
No sound from HPH?

Robert Scheck - 25-11-2021 11:51:43
Ah.

Kurt Kayser - 25-11-2021 11:52:31
Ok, if we don't make a question, a comment will not be discussed That is news to me.

Jordi Palet Martínez - 25-11-2021 11:52:37
@Peter, I think my email is comprehensive, hopefully can help to start a discussion. I need to re-read the document and also my email as I typed it in a rush before the session ...

Kurt Kayser - 25-11-2021 11:52:59
never mind.

Kurt Kayser - 25-11-2021 11:54:55
thanks for taking it.

Peter Koch - 25-11-2021 11:55:21
@Jordi (to my rescue ;-) thanks for getting the list discussion going, lots of points to address

Daniel Karrenberg - 25-11-2021 11:55:43
I also liked the old office very much, and that is no comparison to the new one. For the record, we had very very constructive cooperation from the conservation authorities when we remodelled offices. Amsterdam is very good at balancing preservation and contemporary use as you can see when visiting.

Brian Nisbet - 25-11-2021 11:55:46
Thank you!

Alun Davies - 25-11-2021 11:55:47
That's it for the Community Plenary. Thanks for attending all! The next session - IPv6 WG - kicks off at 13:00. More info on the RIPE 83 meeting plan: https://ripe83.ripe.net/programme/meeting-plan/
