Gert Doering - 23-11-2021 13:00:09
Kurt: T-Shirts are DIY this year

Niall O'Reilly - 23-11-2021 13:00:21
@Kurt: https://ripe83.ripe.net/attend/event-bag/

Kurt Kayser - 23-11-2021 13:03:32
Niall: but that is not what I meant "We’re going DIY for RIPE 83!"...

Kurt Kayser - 23-11-2021 13:05:29
maybe someone put them on a store.. nevermind.

Gert Doering - 23-11-2021 13:06:11
let's ask the NCC to put up a T-Shirt business! That might work better than this IPv4 stuff

Anders Mundt Due - 23-11-2021 13:06:35
It would probably be a quicker rollout than ipv6

Niall O'Reilly - 23-11-2021 13:07:16
Hmm, should we do something to prevent stockpiling of T-shirts ...

Ties de Kock - 23-11-2021 13:07:38
...stockpiling of free T-shirts is an actual problem...

Payman Mohammadi - 23-11-2021 13:07:38
where can we find the recorded files of the diffrent presentation ?

Daniel Karrenberg - 23-11-2021 13:07:57
This being about routing: Should we provide operational feedback on https://www.ietf.org/id/draft-schoen-intarea-unicast-127-00.html or better leave that to NANOG? --- half ;-)

Gert Doering - 23-11-2021 13:08:02
Niall: only the first one is free, all the rest must be worn for 10 years

Niall O'Reilly - 23-11-2021 13:08:25
@Payman: https://ripe83.ripe.net/archives/

Kurt Kayser - 23-11-2021 13:08:46
@Ties: fully understood, but my hope is that shops produce them on-demand.

Ties de Kock - 23-11-2021 13:10:02
@Kurt: Oh I meant in my own cabinet :D

Peter Hessler - 23-11-2021 13:10:03
heh, checking the v6 status for the big three shipping companies .com and .de hosts. all 3 are missing v6 on either com or de, and one is v4 only on both.

Gert Doering - 23-11-2021 13:10:57
so which T-Shirt-Shop would be the official RIPE IPv6 recommended one?

Robert Kisteleki - 23-11-2021 13:11:01
@Ties introduce a quota. if you want a new T, you need to get rid of an older one

Gert Doering - 23-11-2021 13:11:21
@Robert don't let $wife hear that

Anders Mundt Due - 23-11-2021 13:11:39
T-shirt aggregation is when you realise you no longer fit in a L and have to get XL

Robert Kisteleki - 23-11-2021 13:12:14
@Gert she was the one who introduced it and is still enforcing it to me...

Gert Doering - 23-11-2021 13:12:38
did you not warn here what it's like to marry a network geek?

Job Snijders - 23-11-2021 13:12:50
at the end of this presentation we will exam the audience to see if they were paying close attention, and if not - they will be forced go IPv6-only for a week (without nat64!)

Gert Doering - 23-11-2021 13:12:53
"you'll have to do with funny remarks nobody else understands, and too many T-Shirts!"

Sebastian Becker - 23-11-2021 13:13:48
@Job: Nice idea.

Blake Willis - 23-11-2021 13:14:50
good question...

Randy Bush - 23-11-2021 13:16:10
@job: good point that being forced to use ipv6 is a punishment

Blake Willis - 23-11-2021 13:16:16
Daniel the "more addresses" I think bears more investigation is https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-schoen-intarea-unicast-lowest-address/

Sebastian Becker - 23-11-2021 13:16:36
@Gert: Good thing: My wife did not come up with that idea until now. I will keep that secret. ;-)

Robert Leichssenring - 23-11-2021 13:16:37
Thank you

Randy Bush - 23-11-2021 13:16:43
:clap::clap::clap:

Sebastian Becker - 23-11-2021 13:16:54
Thanks for the talk!

Blake Willis - 23-11-2021 13:17:13
unlike the other "hey let's de-bogon a crazy /8" it only impacts local address assignment & LAN networking

Job Snijders - 23-11-2021 13:21:59
Fan failure == Hot Security Module? :-)

Gert Doering - 23-11-2021 13:23:05
Hot Standby

Blake Willis - 23-11-2021 13:23:43
"thermally challenged"

Peter Hessler - 23-11-2021 13:26:31
very nice, thanks!

Anders Mundt Due - 23-11-2021 13:26:41
60 seconds of comfortable silence

Sebastian Becker - 23-11-2021 13:26:52
Thanks for charing.

Shane Kerr - 23-11-2021 13:29:31
Transparency is a good suggestion Randy!

Job Snijders - 23-11-2021 13:31:19
To replicate (part of) the RIPE NCC monitoring, there is this excellent software package maintained by Ties https://github.com/ties/rpki-client-web

Shane Kerr - 23-11-2021 13:32:02
Whitelisting public alerts seems reasonable to me.

Felipe Victolla Silveira - 23-11-2021 13:34:32
Rudiger, here we publish all service outages: https://www.ripe.net/support/service-announcements

Al Cutter - 23-11-2021 13:34:36

Markus Zeilinger - 23-11-2021 13:36:21
Is it just me or is the audio quite bad?

Christoph Neukirch - 23-11-2021 13:36:31
audio is good

Wolfgang Tremmel - 23-11-2021 13:36:38
audio is fine here, but video is blinking

Job Snijders - 23-11-2021 13:37:29
Glitching in the matrix :-)

Joel Busch - 23-11-2021 13:37:38
Photosensitivity warning for his video stream

Wolfgang Tremmel - 23-11-2021 13:37:50
perhaps a secret message in blink morse code?

Michel Lanners - 23-11-2021 13:38:07
Strobe connected to the alarm console?

Jelte Jansen - 23-11-2021 13:38:21
perhaps the disco party has started already

Rob Evans - 23-11-2021 13:38:32
"Trusted Log?" Sounds like an application for blockchain.

Ties de Kock - 23-11-2021 13:38:49
@Rob: A merkle tree ~= a blockchain?

Al Cutter - 23-11-2021 13:39:08
but better in a few important respects :)

Randy Bush - 23-11-2021 13:39:41
note that cert issuance validation here in browser certs is analogous to router key signing in rpki

Ties de Kock - 23-11-2021 13:42:43
@Al: It was a tongue in cheek comment about blockchain being ill-defined as well :D.

I don't know the buzzwords, "private permissioned blockchain"

Gert Doering - 23-11-2021 13:42:52
BLOOOOCKCHAIN!

Al Cutter - 23-11-2021 13:42:54
hehe, it's fine - I hear that a lot :)

Al Cutter - 23-11-2021 13:43:16
my response is usually "won't someone think about the polar bears!"

Rob Evans - 23-11-2021 13:43:20
I may have been using mild sarcasm too.

Al Cutter - 23-11-2021 13:43:41
all good :)

Ruediger Volk - 23-11-2021 13:43:42
@Felipe+Ties: presentation described internal monitoring+reporting process and I was looking for the outgoing interface to public

Randy Bush - 23-11-2021 13:44:38
@rudiger: as was i, but with the explicit purpose of helping me diagnose issues i might have

Nathalie Trenaman - 23-11-2021 13:45:22
@Ruediger Our webservices team is currently building a public status page. It will have quite a few metrics for RPKI and we can look into distributing alerts to other channels (slack, IRC...)

Erik Bais - 23-11-2021 13:45:22
Thanks for the presentation ..

Felipe Victolla Silveira - 23-11-2021 13:45:23
That we don't have at the moment, but I think it is a good idea (Randy mentioned it). So we will look into it

Felipe Victolla Silveira - 23-11-2021 13:45:39
@Roediger

Blake Willis - 23-11-2021 13:45:49
dank u wel for the links Job

Randy Bush - 23-11-2021 13:48:27
we merged 66 purchased isps into verio back in the day. large team to support renumbering.

Randy Bush - 23-11-2021 13:49:03
are we going to learn about using dpdk to renumber?

Donald Neal - 23-11-2021 13:51:14
Clearly there's a specifically British approach to migrations.

Randy Bush - 23-11-2021 13:51:50
juniper migration book. have only scanned

Sander Steffann - 23-11-2021 13:51:52
Hi Pim!

Blake Willis - 23-11-2021 13:52:16
even if you don't run JunOS, it's an excellent reference if you need to integrate MPLS networks

Blake Willis - 23-11-2021 13:53:09
It's based on Gonzalo's experience bolting together the various bits of Telefonica

Joel Busch - 23-11-2021 13:56:16
Can confirm Init7 is cool

Hank Nussbacher - 23-11-2021 13:56:19
for some strange reason my meetecho today has no audio. where can i get help?

Sander Steffann - 23-11-2021 13:56:21
+1 to that

Sander Steffann - 23-11-2021 13:56:29
(That was init7)

Erik Bais - 23-11-2021 13:56:51
Hank , you could try to re-load the browser...

Hank Nussbacher - 23-11-2021 13:57:12
i rebooted windows as well as tried ff and chrome

Erik Bais - 23-11-2021 13:58:06
There is the option to use the RIPE video live stream : https://ripe83.ripe.net/live/main/

Silvan Gebhardt - 23-11-2021 13:58:11
re audio I switched from edge (on linux) to firefox (on the same box) and it worked. didn't work in edge anymore

Hank Nussbacher - 23-11-2021 13:58:47
thx JOB - trying that

Job Snijders - 23-11-2021 14:00:51
Pim mentioned "peeringdb" - What is PeeringDB? Check out this introduction video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QA2PvYbvDhg or the website: https://www.peeringdb.com/

Blake Willis - 23-11-2021 14:00:59
good luck Pim, it's always a long journey...

Denis Fondras - 23-11-2021 14:01:16
aut-num: AS8298 has no routing policy ?

Erik Bais - 23-11-2021 14:01:27
Thanks for the preso Pim. nice one.

Erik Bais - 23-11-2021 14:02:31
especially re-numbering with old established peers ... could trigger new peering policies .. and de-peering talks...

Simon Leinen - 23-11-2021 14:03:01
Randy's reference is to Laurent Vanbever's work.

Gert Doering - 23-11-2021 14:03:08
playing the devil's advocate here... "why should I bother to maintain this peer, just because he wants a vanity ASN?"

Simon Leinen - 23-11-2021 14:03:09
(Don't have the exact ref. right now)

Emile Aben - 23-11-2021 14:03:23
https://vanbever.eu/

Wolfgang Tremmel - 23-11-2021 14:03:30
I should include that into my BGP training

Emile Aben - 23-11-2021 14:04:13
found it: https://vanbever.eu/pdfs/vanbever_phd_thesis_online.pdf

Simon Leinen - 23-11-2021 14:04:16
Could be "Snowcap" by Tibor Schneider, Rüdiger Birkner and Laurent Vanbever from this year's SIGCOMM.

Shane Kerr - 23-11-2021 14:04:24
BEST MOTIVATION EVER

Gert Doering - 23-11-2021 14:04:47
Now, if *PIM* does this, I will be happy to renumber my end of the BGP sessions... for others, maybe not so much

Erik Bais - 23-11-2021 14:04:49
Are you offering ?

Mike Hughes - 23-11-2021 14:05:12
If you'll do it again, then you've got the automation right. :)

Blake Willis - 23-11-2021 14:05:26
first time is always the hardest one

Gert Doering - 23-11-2021 14:05:27
If you do not want the 2-digit number, send it my way :-)

William Johnson - 23-11-2021 14:05:49
This session has now ended. The next session is IoT and it will start at 14:30. More info on the RIPE 83 meeting plan: https://ripe83.ripe.net/programme/meeting-plan/
